Many trade jobs are found in the wholesale industry. The largest segment of the whole sale industry is the wholesale merchants. There are many activities involved including the transporting selling, and storing of goods. Therefore, there are three jobs groups are found in the wholesale trade: management, sales and transportation. About 2/3rd of the total workforce concentrated in the merchant wholesaler’s segment. As the needs of the consumers grow, the industry find ways to serve their customers efficiently therefore, more jobs are created in the process.

When the customer buys goods, they usually go to the retail store including supermarkets, websites, department stores, or a gas pump station, but when retail stores, the local government agencies, schools, and hospitals need to buy goods, they so to a whole sale merchants. The retail industry buys goods for reselling while other buy goods for their office or own use like office supplies, vehicles, equipment, and other supplies.

Administrative and office support trade jobs are in receiving, shipping, and inventory that checks the shipments, the quantity, costs and conditions of the items. These clerks may use scanners to accurately inventory the items coming in and out. The order clerk is in charge of handling the order from the customers from any of the company’s branch offices as in the case of large wholesale companies. These clerks take and facilitate the orders and send out word to the warehouse for shipment of the orders. They also answer any inquiries about the items and oversee the stock levels for accounting and sales records. Stock clerks on the other hand, are responsible for pricing the items and storing them in their own spaces in the warehouses. When the order clerks give the word the stock clerks retrieve the items and gets the items packed and ready for shipment.



The sales representatives related to the trade jobs entice customers to buy the company’s goods and provides assistance in choosing them. There are actually three types of sales people in the wholesale trade: the supervisors, the outside sales representative and inside sales representatives. The job of the inside sale person is taking orders from customers. They also in some cases, address issues, calling prospective customers, fixing problem during shipments, and other concerns. The outside sales representatives have better skill; they are sometimes called the closers. They travel to the customers’ office, represent their firm, and offer brochures of the products and the services they provide. In medical firms, they are called sales representative or agents. The sales supervisors are responsible for overseeing the sales operation of the sales staff. They also do outside sales if it is absolutely necessary.

Other trade jobs are packers, material moving, financial operations, and management. The transportation movers load the goods to the truck and deliver them to the customers. Laborers and material movers move the stock from one location to another. Packers pack the items for delivery. Heavy equipment operators usually drive forklifts to move the goods within the warehouse, or for loading the truck for delivery. Lastly, the delivery and sales workers delivers the goods and usually display the items in the customer’s showroom or stores. They make sure that the items as in good shape before displaying them. The management and financial managers oversee the overall operation of the firm. There are also purchasing managers and wholesale buyers employed in the wholesale firms.
