Finding a Career in the Trading of Securities
By Silas Reed
The trading of securities and other financial products has been going on since decades in almost every country. Stocks and debentures are traded on a regular basis to earn profit. The people who deal in the buying and selling of these stocks and debentures on the behalf of clients and banks are called stock traders. You too can enter the profession as it does not require much on the part of traveling and you can earn good money as well.

The job of traders is to study the market and set prices for stocks and debentures. The thorough research of the market becomes necessary when it comes to trading the shares and debentures. They have to keep in touch with their clients and know if they need to buy or sell commodities in the share market. When the markets are open, they need to keep a constant check on whether the prices are rising or falling. This will affect the value of the stock that his clients are holding so it is his duty to keep a check. He is the one who is responsible for understanding the mood of the market while he sets the prices. They have to work in close coordination with the research department that will help him to know what securities he should trade in. it is a busy job and you may have to work under tremendous pressure when the market is not in a good position.

You can be a trader if you have a degree in accounts, economics, or finance from a good university. If you have an MBA degree in Finance, you can count it as a big advantage. People from the top business schools are the ones that are given preference over others. If you have financial degrees in your name, your chances of getting a job will be much more. You can work as an intern with any of the investment banks. This is necessary because there are certain companies that do not employ people who do not have any internship experience.

A trader needs special skills if he wishes to work as a securities trader. You will have to work hard and start working even before the markets are open and work even after the markets close. You should have the skill to understand the market traits and characteristics. This will help you in fixing the prices for the commodities and make profits. There is a particular trend that goes on in the market. You should know how to work in association with other people while there is a lot of pressure upon you. Concentration is also one of the necessary skills in a trader. The market moves fast and you should have the ability of thinking quickly and making decisions fast.

There is a lot of data that needs analysis. You should know how to interpret the data. As the trading is all about money, one of the necessary traits is mathematical skills. If you are not good in dealing with numbers, this job is not for you. You should know how to solve bigger calculations in seconds. If you are a good risk taker, you are on for the job. What the employer looks for in a person is the ability to take risks and moving out of it with ease. You need to be a calculative risk taker. Dedication to work and professionalism will set you apart from other candidates that are there for the same job. You also need to be ethical, and have the will to work honestly.

The training for trader jobs is always on-the-job. You can work as an intern with a trader to gain useful knowledge of the market trends and behaviors. This will help you in adding a positive point to your curriculum vitae. There are some companies that employ only those people that have done some kind of internship and have gained useful experience. If you are a new graduate, you may even receive formal training. It will make you learn about the roles and aspects of trading.

The companies look for professionals that have trained under some or the other company. If you have worked as an intern in some company, you are more likely to be noticed by the employers. When you gain more experience, you can hold jobs that have a better or bigger designation. After you have worked in a company as a junior trader, you can get the job of a senior trader in a company.

There are a number of banks and organizations that deal in securities. They require traders to work for them. You can find full time employment easily. There are certain banks that have been hiring traders on a full time basis like PNB Paribas and Deutsche Bank. You can even open up your own company and employ traders to work under you. This can be done after you have certain number of years of experience.

With the growing number of banks and institutions that deal in fixed securities, the trader jobs have also increased. There are a number of companies and banks that are hiring fresh graduates and business management post graduates. There is always an opportunity to work under other traders. You can begin your career as a junior trader and get on-the-job training. When the market is on the full boom, you can switch companies.

The salary that you can expect will be around $30,000 to $48.000 annually. Bonuses are also given to the employees. You can earn good bonuses if you work well. You can earn the amount that equals the salary of a stock broker. However, if one does trading with his own money, profits have no limits and depend on luck, good decision making skills, and an understanding of the market trends.

Trading is a lucrative career and people who have the knack of knowing the market trends and analyzing them to make profits can be the most benefited. You can easily get the job under a trader or you can start up your own business as well. Expect this business to do you well.
