Profile

The primary function of the Derivative Consultant (aDCa) team is to act as the liaison between a client or investment manager (IM) and the Derivatives support teams. A DC is the primary point of contact and is responsible for facilitating communication and simplifying information flow for clients that use Derivative contracts. DC positions are staffed with enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals, able to perform effectively in a fast-paced deadline-oriented multi-task environment.
The DC team has an immediate opening for a Senior Consultant II reporting to the North American DC Client Service Manager and responsible for new client implementations and meeting ongoing service commitments for a number of our key client and/or Investment Manager relationships across North America. The incumbent will be responsible for the development of those relationships, delivery of daily service, ensuring the Derivative product development strategy meets the needs of the client and investment management community, understanding and interfacing with internal partners to address issues, spearheading process improvements and driving change. The candidate will be a mentor to other DC consultants and must be able to communicate effectively at all levels and be able to represent Northern Trust at client presentations, various industry and business forums. This individual will be instrumental in driving Derivatives overall vision, ensuring that consistent standards and best practices are
utilized and driving key initiatives and issues to conclusion.
Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of Derivatives operations is important to manage the overall client experience. Knowledge of client reporting needs and conventions typical within the groupas client base. Knowledge of Summit and GMI is not necessary, but an advantage. Ability to work well, both as an individual and part of a team. Comfortable interacting and communicating with all levels of Management, Clients and external Investment Managers. Good prioritization and time management skills required. Skills in negotiation, client service, organizational and problem solving are also required.
Major Duties
1. Ongoing management of the relationship with the clients serviced, including regular service reviews.
2. Maintaining relationships with internal groups including Product, Client Service, Relationship Management, Technology, Change Management and other internal groups who outsource Derivative Operations to ensure high quality service delivery. In addition, to ensure that the infrastructure is flexible and robust enough to accommodate clientas ongoing needs.
3. Support on boarding of new business into Derivatives for existing and new clients serviced. Expected to play a critical role in shaping and defining the operational model.
4. Facilitate continuous process review and improvements and pro-active management of the change process. Fully evaluate implications of new requirements to existing process to ensure smooth take on of new business.
5. Strong linkage to Technology support group and expected to input into strategic plans.
6. Strong operations and/or client management experience with exposure to complex operational processes. Expected to be a mentor to other consultants in the DC team.
7. Researches and analyzes complex client inquiries. Handles problem client situations offering support and resolution.
8. Participate in Industry events and have strong linkages within the Derivatives Industry to monitor and assess growing trends to understand competitive environment and recommend changes to existing processes or additions to current service offerings.
Experience
* Degree in Business or applied sciences.
* Minimum 5 a 7 years experience in client servicing and/or financial service operations in a fast-paced, client-focused, deadline-oriented environment. Derivatives experience is required.
* Experience within an Operations environment with strong process and control skills.
* Experience working with Self managed and/or highly complex clients such as highly complex pension funds portfolios including products such as commodities, equity, fx and interest rate products.
* Comfortable with Active Collateral Management process being able to create flexible solutions to client based scenarios.
* Superior follow-up experience as well as significant self starting expertise.
* Proven experience managing client relationships and capable of influencing senior management both internally and externally.
* High appreciation of the current strategic direction of Derivatives Operations.
* Strong thirst for derivative industry knowledge and a desire to educate others. The art of understanding complex derivative strategies and explaining them in a simple form is mandatory.
* Proven ability to lead teams towards meeting client expectations, but to also be a team player with a track record of building strong networks and relationships.
* Superior team player that does not hesistate to lend assistance and outstanding mentoring skills.
