The specialist will be responsible to gather & analyze compliance data in support of worldwide product safety, US & Foreign customs initiatives, and export control. Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other ThorLabs locations. Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to: Coordinates with Vendors & Buyers for the purposes of accurate compliance classifications and traceability requirements. Maintains computerized database files utilizing Sharepoint & Axapta software or software specific to the office to which assigned. Checks supplier data documents for compliance with requirements and for quality of the documents to be reproducible. Initiates e-mail, fax and\/or telephone calls to obtain further data and ensure completeness of records. Produces regular reports, charts, and special, one-of-a-kind reports as needed. Maintain a list of qualified suppliers, by commodity, approved by management. Reviews product technical data packets for completeness including all required test reports & signatures. Acts as extra resource for picking\/packing of customer orders for shipping department when needed. Experience: 1 or more years of compliance or regulatory experience working with government agencies, as well as 5 or more years of administrative record keeping experience. Familiarity with EU Product safety regulations; RoHS, REACH, CE Marking and USCBP Import regulations and HTS. Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the US Customs Regulations. Individual will be required to attend ongoing training to keep current as regulations change. MS Excel Experience. Basic computer skills are required. Data entry experience. Familiarity with Axapta (or other ERP system) and RAF system. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, vendors and government representatives. Must have the ability to maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information. Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment, and able to work extended hours as needed. Outstanding attention to detail and strong ability to multitask. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals at all levels or the company. Working with individuals from all departments is a daily requirement. Must be able to understand written work instructions. Basic mathematic and analytical skills are required.
