Trade & Compliance Manager is responsible for the management and continuous improvement of the Export and Import compliance program across the business enterprise to ensure adherence to Government requirements.  Includes leadership and development of cross divisional SME team in the USA, Canada and the United Kingdom. 

Essential Responsibilities

•    Recognized as subject matter expert (SME) for Export and Import compliance

•    Maintain, improve, implement updates and execute compliance program.

•    Interface with Senior Leadership for updates on program status, changes in legislation and risk. •    Provide annual and ad hoc awareness training.  

•    Lead and develop cross functional team of subject matter experts (SME)

•    Supplier Relationship Management of Customs Broker(s) and Consultants to include Trade, Denied Party Screening and outside counsel.

•    Lead contract negotiation and interpret existing contracts between Powell and global service providers. 

•    Provide leadership in on-going trade programs, and service improvement efforts.

•    Provide leadership and coordinate opportunities for Powell supply chain activities.

•    Provide assistance in the the evaluation of supplier and client contacts in regards to trade and incoterms evaluation

•    Develops and is accountable for budgets/standard cost for quarterly/annual operating and long range planning for the defined category.

•    Identify and determine strategy to implement process and tool improvements for strategic sourcing.

•    Works collaboratively with stakeholders, including executive management, to innovate, reduce complexity and drive our overall trade compliance strategy.

•    Knowledge of institutional problem solving tools/processes such as process mapping and root cause analysis

Job Requirements


•    Minimum of 8 years Trade & Compliance experience, preferably in oil & gas industry

•    Licensed Customs Broker or JD

•    Bachelor degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations, Engineering or related field

•    Ability to interface and influence senior leadership

•    High level of negotiation skills (tactics, techniques, strategies).

•    Experience with services and indirect purchasing desirable (preferably logistics, insurance, travel, temporary labor)

•    Experience managing supplier relationships and contract negotiations

•    Capable of working in a matrix environment and leading a cross functional team

•    Working knowledge of terms and conditions is required

•    Must be able to communicate effectively across multiple cultures and work well in a global team environment.

•    Strong PC application skills including complement of Microsoft Office software.

•    Strong planning/project management skills

Working Conditions

•    Temperature controlled working environment. 

•    Typical office environment; may experience minor discomfort from extensive use of a computer display and keyboard; travel between buildings on campus and between campuses.

•    Some travel required (10-20%).

Physical Requirements

•    Maintaining body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs

•    Sitting, standing and walking for long periods of time.

•    Typing, punching or applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.

•    Perceiving size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with the fingertips.

•    Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force up to 20 lbs.
