The purpose of the class is to direct, supervise and assist work crews engaged in routine maintenance. The class is responsible for assigned area of responsibility. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.

Example of Duties:

The City of Richmond Department of Public Works is seeking highly qualified candidatesto fill the position of Trades Supervisor I - Fire Equipment in the Facilities Division. The incumbent is responsible for providing supervision to assigned staff and assist work crews with various maintenance projects.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Planning, scheduling, and supervising repair and maintenance tasks for crew members, assisting when necessary

Training personnel in areas of responsibility to ensure proper duty performance

Maintaining time sheets and leave records for crew members and preparing periodic evaluations on performance

Practicing and training staff on job safety procedures and ensuring staff are in compliance

Providing feedback to supervisor,crew and to/from Operations and Support

Scheduling all quarterly, semi-annual and annual inspections, maintenance, and testing of sprinkler systems, fire alarms, exhaust suppression systems, kitchen ventilation hoods, and fire suppression systems

Reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, schematics, operational product manuals, and system software programs

Maintaining the annual inspections work order database built for detection, alarm and protection systems to establish an inspection schedule and record keeping for all life safety equipment

Coordinating project work with contractors

Ordering supplies and materials for jobs as needed

Ensuring machinery and equipment are maintained in optimal operating condition at all times

Establishing and monitoring a preventive maintenance schedule

_The City of Richmond Department of Public Works employees who work in this class are considered essential personnel and will be required to work during declared emergencies and major weather events._

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses:

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires high school diploma or GED and formal training, special courses or self-education that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training

Requires one (1) year of experience

An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification

Requires valid state driver's license

May require a commercial driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

Valid state driver'slicenseupon hire

At least two (2) years of experience inspecting and testing fire sprinkler systems, dry and pre-action systems

Knowledge of fire pumps and alarm panels

Experience with Onyx Fire Monitoring systems, Siemens MXL, and Simplex4100U systems

Knowledge of the National Fire Protection Association(NFPA) Standard25 and Code 72

Sensory ability refers to hearing, sight, touch, taste, and smell required by the job.

The job requires normal visual acuity, depth perception, and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, and texture perception.
