Trading Department Overview
The Trading department is responsible for implementing the investment views of the world's largest hedge fund while minimizing transaction costs and information leakage. We do this by constantly deepening our understanding of liquidity and market dynamics to develop systematic, non-discretionary trade execution strategies.
Night Trading Associates (NTAs) play a vital role in Bridgewater's trading execution strategy. From a unique position as the nucleus of Bridgewater's trading activity, NTA's have a distinctive view into the outside world via close interaction with the market on a daily basis. Traders at BW do not have discretion in their trading and do not manage a book - instead traders execute using a systematic set of rules and strive to improve those rules by developing a world-class understanding of markets.
Guided by an excellence driven mentality, you can expect to rely on a fast paced environment where an entrepreneurial drive is welcomed and desired. A deep sense of intellectual curiosity will be needed to help fuel your ability to stay on top of the ever changing market structure and dynamics as well as enable you to be an innovator and driver of change in out systematic process. We are looking for candidates who are tight operators, who have a focus on operational efficiency, and individuals who can quickly see what matter in a given situation and apply common sense to weigh options and make effective decisions.
Through extensive on-desk formal training and informal on-the-job instruction, NTAs become well-versed in trade execution strategies, the logic used to implement our strategies, and the production systems used to facilitate our logic. Once trained, our NTAs focus on certain markets depending on their specific teams in order to carry out the core responsibilities of our department, from implementing our desired exposures to the evolution of our execution strategy. A successful Night Trading Associate will:
Execute Bridgewater's desired exposures in European and Asian markets according to our systematic, proprietary processes
Develop a holistic understanding of trading execution strategies
Contribute to Bridgewater's understanding of market microstructure, transaction costs, market participants, and products in the markets
Identify problems and contribute to evolving our execution process
Report on daily trading activity and market events
Develop and maintain strong relationships with our liquidity providers
We are very open to backgrounds that may not include direct trading experience, so long as the candidate can demonstrate knowledge of the markets and the ability and inclination to develop a robust approach to execution strategy. Please include college GPA and standardized test scores with any relevant breakdowns (for example, SAT math/reading/writing) with your application.
Please note that we do not provide immigration sponsorship for this position.
